　　main idea和main purpose

　　SAT阅读中有一种关于main idea和main purpose的提问，咋一眼看两者提问方式长得很相似，一不小心没看仔细就很可能被套路，其实，两者考察的知识点是完全不一样的。

　　两者有何区别呢？我们先用一个中文例子来解释一下。

　　例子：早晨温暖的阳光透过偌大的落地窗，洒在了正在睡觉的人儿身上。小丁丁睁开眼，揉了揉可爱的小眼睛，然后悠哉悠哉的从被窝里面钻出来，伸了伸懒腰。佣人们听到了主人的起床声，蜂拥而来，帮忙穿衣的穿衣，帮忙洗漱的洗漱，一切收拾妥当之后下楼就餐。早餐是从世界各地空运过来的食物，有龙虾，有牛肉还有烤全羊。早餐之后，小丁丁在一群人的簇拥和送别中坐着司机老王开的劳斯莱斯离开了自己的城堡，开始了美好的一天。

　　那么问题来了，这个main idea 应该是：小丁丁的早晨生活   而main purpose 应该是： 小丁丁很有钱。

　　题目

　　This passage is excerpted from Federalist Paper No. 5, published in 1787. In it, statesman John Jay discusses the potential effects of dividing the U.S. into several different nations.

　　P1: The history of Great Britain is the one with which we are in general the best acquainted, and it gives us many useful lessons.

　　P2: Hence, like most other bordering nations, they would always be either involved in disputes and war, or live in the constant apprehension of them.

　　P3: The most sanguine advocates for three or four confederacies cannot reasonably suppose that they would long remain exactly on an equal footing in point of strength, even if it was possible to form them so at first;

　　P4: Both those passions would lead them to countenance, if not to promote, whatever might promise to diminish her importance; and would also restrain them from measures calculated to advance or even to secure her prosperity.

　　P5， P6忽略不计

　　整个文章从blurb开始就大概可知文章主旨，P1从Britain的例子入手，P2-P4都在强调分裂会带来的一系列后果，而作者的观点也呼之欲出了。

　　接下来看题：
